Just a quick note to say that we've scheduled Northern Voice 2010 for May 7 and 8, 2010. Visit our 2010 conference site to learn more, submit a talk or register (registration will open in late February).
We're in the midst of planning for Northern Voice 2010. One of the tasks we're looking for some help with is the re-skinning or designing of this site. We're looking for somebody who can:
We'll also need a few banner ads, a Twitter background and a few other items for use elsewhere on the web.
If you're this person, we'd love to hear from you. Email Travis at nep at hopstudios dot com.
We know you love to write, so we're passing along Suite101.com's call for writers. The Yaletown-based online magazine--and NV 2009 sponsor--is looking for writers to join its network of more than 2,000 writers.
Here's how it works. Suite101 writers can write on any topic they like, and are paid with a share of the revenue their articles earn the site each month. Suite101 says they get 12 million unique monthly visitors.

After an amazing few days, the 5th annual Northern Voice has finished and we had an absolutely amazing, if not slightly exhausting, time. Without the great speakers and attendees that come each year, this conference wouldn't be the same. We'd like to take this opportunity to thank all of the keynotes, speakers, and attendees for helping us make this a great event, we couldn't do it without you.
As per the Location page, the conference is once again at the Forestry Sciences Centre at UBC's main campus. I always get lost when I go to UBC, so I created a quick custom map to highlight its location.
The following map shows the location of the Forestry Sciences Centre and the UBC bus loop, should you be coming by public transit. For a nice printable map, check out UBC's Wayfinding page.
Incidentally, anybody can edit that map. So feel free to add the best path between the bus loop and the Centre, notes on parking spots and so forth.
With only a couple of days until the conference begins, there are a bunch of quick tidbits to let you know about.
Lanyards
To help keep the costs of bringing Northern Voice to you at the extremely low price we do, we are trying to keep our out of pocket costs as low as possible. This year, we will have a limited supply of Lanyards available for name badges. We are encouraging the attendees to search the back of their desks and bring in an extra Lanyard or two or five - we've all accumulated tons from previous conferences we've attended, so lets lessen our environmental impact by reusing.
Don't worry if you don't have one. We will be bringing in colourful yarn for people to use to create their own Lanyard if we run out and you don't bring one in.
Tickets to the Norther Voice kick off party at Fredrico's Supper Club are almost sold out - there are 11 tickets left at the time of writing this post. Tickets for the 3 course dinner are only $25. If you would like to attend, please purchase your tickets soon before they sell out - which we anticipate that they will.
You do not need to be attending actual conference to attend the dinner - so if you missed the chance to purchase a conference ticket, you can still partake in a Northern Voice event. Tickets will be available for purchase until they sell out or until February 12th.
The conference party has been a part of Northern Voice since the very beginning (though the first year was a post-party instead of a pre-party).
This year, our pre-conference party at Frederico's has generated a lot of pondering and cross-posting about the sponsor who's helping us to put on the dinner, the BC Liberal Party.
The kick off party for Northern Voice at Fredrico's Supper Club go on sale tomorrow morning at 9:30 am. There are only just over 100 tickets available, so make sure you get yours right away - the tickets to the conference sold out in 3 days, so we're expecting that this will sell out quickly as well.
Tickets for the party are just $25 thanks to generous sponsorship from the BC Liberal Party.
Party Details:
Anyone who has gone to Northern Voice the last few years, knows that the conference always opens with an amazing kick off dinner party and this year will be no exception. Last year the Northern Voice Tiki themed party at the Waldorf was a smashing success and will be a hard act to follow, but I think we've come up with a dinner that will give it a run for its money.
Wow! Tickets are sold out for the entire conference. We're sorry we don't have room for everyone who wants to attend.
